Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. showed appreciation for young athletes in a heartfelt way on April 24, 2025, by personally distributing hotdogs and ice cream to around 400 student-athletes at Maliwalo National High School in Tarlac City. The students were participants in the Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) meet, proudly representing Angeles City.
The gesture was a simple but meaningful act to recognize the hard work and dedication of the athletes, who trained and competed to bring honor to their city. Mayor Lazatin was seen interacting warmly with the students, handing out the snacks and thanking them for their efforts.
“This is a small gift to show our appreciation for the athletes who are wholeheartedly giving recognition to our city,” Lazatin said in Filipino during the event. His words reflected not only gratitude but also genuine admiration for the students’ discipline and spirit.
The event created a light and joyful atmosphere among the athletes, many of whom were visibly touched by the mayor’s personal effort. It served as a morale boost for the young sports representatives, encouraging them to stay committed to their athletic journey.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the city government remains committed to supporting Angeleño athletes through various means, including improved sports programs, funding, and recognition efforts like this one. He encouraged the athletes to continue striving for excellence, knowing that their city is behind them every step of the way.
Parents and coaches who were present also expressed appreciation for the mayor’s presence and gesture. According to several of them, it was the first time a city leader had taken such a direct and personal approach to engage with student-athletes at a regional event.
As the CLRAA meet continues, the athletes from Angeles City carry not just their uniforms and skills, but also the heartfelt support of their local government, embodied in a humble yet memorable moment of hotdogs, ice cream, and gratitude.
