ANGELES CITY — Outgoing Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has officially been proclaimed as the newly elected Representative of Pampanga’s 1st District. The proclamation came from the Provincial Board of Canvassers following the completion of vote tallying for the national and local elections.
Lazatin, who has served as city mayor since 2019, will now transition to a new role in Congress, representing the district that includes Angeles City and neighboring areas. His victory marks a return to legislative work, as he had previously served as a congressman before taking the city’s top executive post.
In his brief speech following the proclamation, Lazatin expressed deep gratitude to the people of Pampanga’s 1st District for their trust and support. He pledged to continue championing programs that uplift communities, particularly in areas of health, education, infrastructure, and social welfare.
“Ang serbisyo publiko ay hindi natatapos sa isang posisyon,” Lazatin said. “Ngayon ay dadalhin ko ang boses ng distrito sa Kongreso upang mas mapalawak pa ang ating serbisyo.”
Supporters and city officials gathered to congratulate Lazatin, who ran a campaign focused on continuity of service, highlighting his achievements as mayor including health services expansion, education support programs, and efficient governance.
With his new mandate, Lazatin said he will push for legislation that directly addresses the needs of his constituents. He also plans to collaborate closely with local government units to ensure that national policies translate into tangible benefits at the grassroots level.
Lazatin’s upcoming move to Congress opens a new chapter in his political journey, and his supporters are hopeful that his proven leadership at the city level will bring lasting impact on a broader scale.
