ANGELES CITY — Angeles City continues its upward trajectory on the global stage, climbing 14 spots to rank 488th in the 2025 Oxford Economics Global Cities Index. The improvement from its 2024 position of 502nd highlights the city’s growing reputation as a dynamic and well-governed urban center.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. expressed pride in the recognition, stating it reflects the city’s success in fostering inclusive development. He emphasized that the rise in the rankings is proof that local programs and policies are producing meaningful results for both residents and investors.
The Global Cities Index evaluates 1,000 cities around the world based on five key dimensions: Economics, Human Capital, Quality of Life, Environment, and Governance. Angeles City is among only nine Philippine cities included in the index, and it now holds the third-highest ranking among them.
Manila and Cebu are the only Philippine cities ranked higher, at 206th and 470th respectively. Angeles has now surpassed other key cities in the country such as Davao, Bacolod, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, and Dagupan in the global rankings.
In 2024, Angeles was ranked 5th among Philippine cities and stood out for its environmental and economic performance. Despite the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, the city managed to generate nearly ₱3 billion in local revenue, which contributed to its positive momentum.
Mayor Lazatin credited the city’s steady rise to its strong economic programs, improved public services, and dedication to sustainability. He noted that the administration has remained focused on long-term growth while ensuring that progress benefits all sectors of society.
As Angeles City gains international attention, local leaders hope the recognition will further attract investment and boost tourism. The city’s performance in the global index serves as a testament to its resilience and vision for becoming one of the Philippines’ most livable and progressive urban centers.
