The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, is set to begin a major initiative to clear tangled and hazardous overhead wires—commonly referred to as “spaghetti wires”—starting July 31, 2025. This citywide cleanup project aims to improve public safety and restore order along Angeles City’s main roads and business districts.
The clearing operation will focus on removing cluttered electrical and telecommunications cables that pose risks to pedestrians and motorists while also affecting the city’s urban landscape. These tangled wires, often seen hanging low or in disarray, not only create visual pollution but also increase the potential for electrical hazards during storms or accidents.
In preparation for the project rollout, the Angeles City Traffic Development Office (ACTDO) recently held a coordination meeting with utility and telecom providers. Representatives from major service companies, together with members of the City Council, gathered to discuss the planned clearing operations and finalize their roles and responsibilities in the process.
During the meeting, timelines were established, and logistics were reviewed to avoid service interruptions. Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of teamwork and shared accountability in ensuring that the operation will be carried out efficiently, with minimal impact on public utility services and daily commuter flow.
This initiative also aligns with the city’s broader campaign to enhance road safety, reduce visual clutter, and maintain a clean and organized city environment. The effort is expected to be completed in phases, prioritizing high-traffic and commercial areas before expanding to inner roads and barangays.
Local residents and business owners have welcomed the move, noting that tangled wires have long been a concern in several city areas. Many expressed optimism that this effort will not only reduce risks but also enhance the city’s image and livability.
The Angeles City Government urges the public to cooperate and support the ongoing efforts. With close coordination among the LGU, private utility firms, and concerned departments, the city remains committed to building a safer, cleaner, and more organized Angeles for all Angeleños.
