Young athletes from Angeles City made a splash in the national swimming scene, winning a total of 43 medals in two prestigious competitions: the UP Diliman SwimWave 4th Leg International Qualifying Competition and the Ignite Swimming Competition held at New Clark City (NCC).
Representing Gueco Balibago Elementary School and Sto. Rosario Elementary School, a 14-member team collected an impressive 27 medals. Their haul included 20 golds, 2 silvers, and 5 bronze medals, proving their strength and skill in various events.
Angeles Elementary School also showed remarkable performance with its 12-member squad. The young swimmers, competing in the 5 to 10 age bracket, brought home 16 medals — 8 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze — a testament to their dedication and talent.
All of the swimmers train under the guidance of Coach Bernie Policarpio of the BP Scorpions. His mentorship has been instrumental in the team’s success, as seen in their consistent podium finishes in both local and national meets.
In recognition of their achievements, the swimmers paid a courtesy visit to Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II. They expressed their gratitude for the local government’s continued support for grassroots sports development, especially in swimming.
Mayor Lazatin commended the young athletes for bringing pride to the city. He also extended his thanks to Coach Policarpio, the trainers, and the parents for their dedication and hard work in molding the next generation of champions.
Joining the mayor in honoring the athletes were Councilors JC Parker Aguas, Niknok Bañola, Alex Indiongco, Atty. Jeselle Dayrit, Raco Del Rosario, and Richard Gaza Jr., all of whom shared words of encouragement and praised the children for their commitment to excellence.
