Angeles City, Pampanga — In a determined move to enhance road safety and city aesthetics, the Angeles City local government unit (LGU) continues its intensive aerial cable clearing operations. The campaign aims to eliminate hanging wires and tangled “spaghetti cables” from major streets, contributing to both public safety and urban cleanliness.
Led by the City Engineer’s Office and the Angeles City Traffic Development Office (ACTDO), the operations involve coordinated efforts from major telecommunications and utility companies. Partners include Smart-PLDT, Globe Telecom, DITO Telecommunity, Converge ICT Solutions, and Angeles Electric Corporation (AEC). Their unified goal is to streamline overhead installations and reduce potential hazards to residents and motorists.
This week’s clearing activities focused on Sto. Rosario Street, specifically at the corner of Villa Angelina Subdivision. The site is a vital access point that serves both residential and commercial areas. Clearing operations there aimed to untangle decades of unregulated cable installations, which posed safety risks and contributed to visual clutter.
By removing obsolete and disorganized wiring, the LGU is also paving the way for a more reliable utility infrastructure. Unused or redundant cables not only obstruct views but also pose fire hazards and service interruptions. Regular maintenance and clean-up of these lines ensure better performance of internet, electricity, and phone services.
The city government emphasized that this is part of a larger initiative for long-term urban development. Angeles City Mayor and LGU officials reaffirmed their commitment to improving public infrastructure, while also asking for residents’ cooperation and understanding during temporary disruptions.
Residents and business owners in the area have expressed mixed reactions, with some inconvenienced by temporary traffic rerouting and power adjustments. However, many also welcomed the changes, appreciating the improvements in safety and the cleaner streetscape.
The Angeles LGU encourages the public to continue supporting the ongoing works. As operations extend to more barangays in the coming weeks, the city urges residents to report hazardous or hanging wires in their vicinity. The long-term vision remains clear: a safer, more organized, and aesthetically pleasing Angeles City.
