The Angeles City Government has launched intensive declogging and clearing operations at the Pampang Public Market as part of its ongoing initiative to maintain public safety, sanitation, and support for local commerce. Spearheaded by the City Engineer’s Office, the operations are being fast-tracked under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II.
The primary goal of the effort is to enhance the drainage system of the market, which has long been affected by clogged pathways and poor water flow. By addressing these concerns, the city aims to reduce the risk of flooding, eliminate stagnant water that can breed diseases, and ensure that market activities continue without interruption.
City engineers and maintenance personnel are working round-the-clock to clean canals, remove waste buildup, and clear obstructions from major walkways and alleys within the market. These actions not only support a cleaner environment but also promote the safety of both vendors and customers navigating the market daily.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the operations are part of a broader plan to elevate public market conditions across the city. He mentioned that unannounced visits will be conducted in the coming weeks to personally inspect the market’s cleanliness, infrastructure condition, and vendor compliance with sanitation rules.
“Markets are vital to local economic activity, so we want to make sure they are safe, clean, and organized for everyone,” Mayor Lazatin said. He added that the city’s approach focuses not just on temporary fixes, but long-term solutions to recurring issues such as drainage and waste management.
Vendors have expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying that the improvements are already making a difference in foot traffic and overall cleanliness. Some noted that customers now feel more comfortable visiting, especially after rainy days when flooding used to be a frequent concern.
With continued support from the local government and active involvement from the community, the Angeles City LGU hopes to transform public markets into cleaner, more efficient, and more inviting spaces for both sellers and buyers. The clearing and declogging campaign is just the beginning of a sustained effort to improve public infrastructure citywide.
