ANGELES CITY — A significant academic-industry collaboration was formalized as the City College of Angeles (CCA) entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. (YTPI), marking a new milestone in expanding educational and career opportunities for Angeleño students.
The MOA signing was led by Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II and YTPI President and CEO Atsushi Funayama as primary signatories. Joining them were Dr. Jenneth E. Sarmiento, Officer-in-Charge President of CCA, and Nishimon Masatsugu of YTPI, who witnessed the formalization of this partnership aimed at empowering students through financial and developmental support.
As a direct outcome of the agreement, two students from CCA—Mae Anne Guibo and Vrenz Llyr Matibag—were officially named as YTPI scholars. The scholarship provides a comprehensive benefits package, covering full tuition and miscellaneous fees, summer classes, a monthly stipend, and a book allowance each semester.
To remain in the program, scholars must maintain strong academic performance and good moral character, reinforcing the scholarship’s aim of nurturing not only intelligent but well-rounded individuals. In addition, YTPI expressed interest in offering employment opportunities to scholars upon graduation—connecting education directly to potential career paths.
Mayor Lazatin took the opportunity to congratulate the scholars and encourage them to embody true Angeleño values such as resilience, discipline, and respect. He emphasized that beyond academic excellence, their character will reflect the city’s pride and culture to their benefactors and future colleagues.
Dr. Sarmiento also commended the initiative, noting that the CCA-YTPI partnership is more than just financial aid—it is a transformative alliance that helps prepare students for real-world challenges and future leadership roles in industry.
This partnership underscores the LGU’s commitment to accessible and quality education, aligned with CCA’s mission to produce graduates who are ready to contribute meaningfully to the workforce and community. Through initiatives like this, Angeles City continues to build pathways for academic success and inclusive progress.
