Angeles City — Continuing its mission to empower the next generation, the Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), successfully implemented the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) 2025 through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO). The program continues to open doors of opportunity for young Angeleños seeking both educational and professional growth.
A total of 123 student beneficiaries under the LGU category were employed for 22 working days, gaining valuable work experience while earning an income to support their schooling. Through this initiative, the city government reaffirms its commitment to nurturing the potential of the youth by providing practical training and financial assistance.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that SPES is more than just a summer job program — it is a stepping stone for students to build discipline, responsibility, and real-world skills. “We want our youth to be prepared not only academically, but also professionally. SPES helps them gain firsthand experience while supporting their education,” he shared.
The 2025 SPES implementation also expanded its scope through partnerships with private establishments such as National Bookstore and McDonald’s. These collaborations provide students with opportunities to experience work in different industries, enhancing their adaptability and broadening their understanding of various workplace environments.
Through PESO Angeles, the local government ensures that each student participant is placed in a work setting that matches their skills and interests. The office also provides mentorship and orientation sessions to prepare the students for their temporary employment and equip them with career readiness skills.
DOLE officials commended Angeles City for its consistent support of the SPES initiative, recognizing the city as one of the most active LGUs in Region III in implementing programs that combine education and employment. The strong partnership between DOLE and the city government continues to benefit hundreds of young Angeleños annually.
With programs like SPES 2025, Angeles City reinforces its dedication to investing in youth empowerment and educational advancement. Guided by Mayor Lazatin’s leadership, the city continues to pave the way for a generation of capable, hardworking, and future-ready Angeleños — embodying the true spirit of a #MasipagNaAngeleño.
