ANGELES CITY – A new wave of innovation and Angeleño pride swept across Angeles City as the Living Stone International School (LSiS) Nexus Robotics Team clinched the World Platinum Award at the Universal Robotics Challenge 2025 World Finals held in Osaka, Japan. The young innovators’ winning entry, titled “Project Hiraya,” earned global recognition for its ingenuity, purpose, and compassion-driven technology.
Representing the Philippines on the international stage, the Nexus Robotics Team’s Project Hiraya, meaning “vision” or “hope,” was designed to promote sustainable cities and communities in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 11. The project featured five interconnected modules — conveyor, distribution, reward, earthquake detection, and flood detection systems — working together to enhance disaster response and community sustainability.
Through this innovative design, the system automates the distribution of essential goods such as water, rice, and canned food during emergencies, while also detecting natural disasters and promoting environmental responsibility through a recycling reward mechanism. The judges praised the project for its real-world application, creativity, and social impact — proving that innovation powered by compassion can make a meaningful difference.
Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II led the city in congratulating the young champions for their exceptional achievement. He commended Mira Preshuce Valentin, Tatianna Alysse Llanos Dee, Sean Joseph Liangco, Liam Jibriel Cubacub, and Mateo Sebastian Dulatre, along with their mentors Sir Nike and Sir Neil, for their dedication, brilliance, and collaborative spirit.
“This world-class victory by the Nexus Robotics Team shows that Angeleño talent knows no bounds,” Mayor Lazatin said. “Their success is a shining example of how intelligence, teamwork, and compassion can create innovations that help build a better future. Truly, #MatalinongAngeleño!”
The City Government of Angeles reaffirmed its strong support for youth innovation, science, and technology education, emphasizing that achievements like this highlight the city’s growing reputation as a hub for globally competitive learners and inventors. The administration continues to promote STEM initiatives and creative learning opportunities for young Angeleños.
As the LSiS Nexus Robotics Team returns home with the World Platinum Award, their victory serves as a powerful reminder that the Angeleño spirit — smart, creative, and compassionate — can shine on any global stage. “Project Hiraya” stands as a symbol of how vision, hope, and purpose-driven innovation can transform not just communities, but the world.
