For Ma’am Geraldine Dizon of Angeles City’s Rural Health Unit (RHU), Christmas is more than festive lights and celebrations—it is a reminder of love, unity, and service to others. With 33 years of experience serving her community, she has faced numerous challenges, from pandemics to natural disasters, yet remains humble, resilient, and dedicated to helping others.
She believes that family is the most important unit of society, and every day is an opportunity to show care and love. “The true spirit of Christmas lies in loving your family and following the teachings of Lord Jesus, who is the reason for the season,” Ma’am Geraldine shared, emphasizing that compassion and kindness should extend beyond the holidays.
Christmas in the barangay brings back fond memories for her, with festive treats like puto bumbong, bibingka, and tsokolate batirol, as well as lively parol processions. For Ma’am Geraldine, these traditions reflect the unity of family, cooperation within the community, and the joy of seeing children happy with even the smallest gifts.
As an RHU staff, she has witnessed the strength and resilience of the community. Despite hardships like pandemics and the Mt. Pinatubo eruption, the people she serves continue to persevere. “Even in times of difficulty, the community remains steadfast. We must give thanks, forgive, love our families and neighbors, and stay strong in faith,” she said.
This year, Ma’am Geraldine also celebrates her recent promotion from Midwife 3 to Midwife 5, a milestone that comes with greater responsibilities. She sees it as an opportunity to expand her service and make a bigger difference in the community she has long dedicated herself to.
For her, love for work and love for people are inseparable. Every day presents a chance to practice kindness, inspire others, and embody the true meaning of Christmas through service. Her commitment reminds everyone that the holiday spirit is reflected in acts of generosity and care every day.
Ma’am Geraldine finds joy in helping her community, assisting patients, and supporting families during barangay activities. Her 33 years of dedication exemplify that Christmas is richer and more meaningful when love, unity, and kindness are shared with others.
