Angeles City — Demonstrating its continued commitment to public safety and animal welfare, the Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” B. Lazatin II, reaffirmed its support for the city’s police K9 unit through the regular care and monitoring of its newly turned-over dogs, Jack and Joe, two Belgian Malinois now serving with the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) EOD–K9 Unit.
On-site at the ACPO headquarters, the City Veterinary Office, headed by Dr. Mario Samson Jr., conducted a health checkup for Jack and Joe, which included deworming and vitamin supplementation to ensure the dogs’ optimal health and conditioning. The visit was part of the city’s ongoing effort to provide sustained veterinary care to its working dogs.
To support their nutritional needs, the veterinary team also supplied a trial bag of dog food to evaluate the dogs’ dietary response and assist in their adjustment to a new feeding regimen. These proactive measures ensure that the K9 heroes remain strong, healthy, and fully prepared for the demanding nature of their duties.
Mayor Lazatin commended both the veterinary team and the ACPO EOD–K9 Unit for their dedication, emphasizing that the city’s K9s are not only working assets but also valued partners in maintaining public safety. “Jack and Joe are part of our frontline defense in ensuring the protection of every Angeleño. Their health and well-being are as important as their service,” he said.
The City Veterinary Office has committed to conducting regular visits and medical monitoring for the K9 unit to ensure continuous health maintenance, proper nutrition, and readiness for deployment. This initiative highlights the city’s holistic approach to animal care, blending operational efficiency with compassion and responsibility.
The two Belgian Malinois are expected to play crucial roles in the city’s explosives detection, search and rescue missions, and safety patrol operations. Their specialized training and agility make them valuable members of the ACPO team, reinforcing the city’s efforts to maintain peace, order, and public security.
Through consistent care and collaboration between the City Veterinary Office and ACPO, Angeles City stands as a model of how local governments can prioritize both human and animal welfare in public service. The ongoing care for Jack and Joe embodies the city’s vision of a safe, compassionate, and well-protected Angeles, where every member—human or canine—plays a vital role in keeping the community secure.
