Angeles City – In anticipation of the approaching Typhoon Opong, the Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin, II, convened a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) Meeting to ensure all necessary measures are in place to protect the public. The meeting was held together with key members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).
Mayor Lazatin presided over the meeting and issued direct instructions to major city departments such as the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Angeles City Traffic Development Office (ACTDO), and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to mobilize and activate their respective disaster response plans ahead of Typhoon Opong’s landfall.
The Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) and Philippine Army also committed their full support, assuring that they are on standby and ready to provide manpower and logistical assistance for emergency situations and rescue operations. Their collaboration with the city’s disaster response teams strengthens the local government’s preparedness.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Angeles praised the city government for its proactive and organized approach to disaster preparedness. Representatives from DILG emphasized that Angeles City continues to serve as a model for effective local disaster response and coordination.
During the meeting, ACDRRMO presented their initial forecast and risk analysis. According to their report, Typhoon Opong is expected to affect parts of the country by Friday, September 26, 2025, with potential impacts on Central Luzon, including Angeles City. They stressed the importance of early warning dissemination and evacuation readiness.
In response, Mayor Lazatin also ordered the pre-positioning of relief goods, standby emergency vehicles, and inspection of flood-prone areas. He reminded all agencies to maintain 24/7 monitoring and to prioritize the safety and welfare of the city’s residents, especially those in vulnerable communities.
As part of the city’s readiness measures, the LGU will be releasing advisories through official platforms, encouraging the public to remain alert and follow safety protocols. With all systems in place and strong inter-agency cooperation, Angeles City stands prepared to mitigate the potential effects of Typhoon Opong and ensure the well-being of its citizens.
