ANGELES CITY – In preparation for Typhoon Uwan, Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II convened a pre-disaster preparedness meeting with all Punong Barangays, the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), and members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) to ensure the safety of residents. The meeting focused on risk assessment, resource readiness, and clear evacuation procedures.
During the session, ACDRRMO presented a Hazard Risk Map, identifying 14 barangays along the Abacan River as high-risk areas. These barangays include Amsic, Anunas, Balibago, Capaya, Malabanias, Margot, Ninoy Aquino, Pampang, Pandan, Pulung Maragul, Santa Teresita, Sapalibutad, Sapangbato, and Tabun, highlighting communities that may require immediate evacuation if conditions worsen.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of proactive measures and assured residents that the City Command Center will operate 24/7 to coordinate disaster response. He encouraged all stakeholders to follow established safety protocols to minimize risks to life and property.
Barangay officials confirmed that designated evacuation centers are ready to accommodate residents, while the LGU has also prepared modular tents to serve as temporary shelters for evacuees. These measures aim to ensure organized and safe relocation in the event of flooding.
The ACDRRMO stressed that pre-emptive or forced evacuation may be necessary in high-risk areas as rainfall intensifies and river levels rise. Special attention was given to secondary tributaries, including Sapang Balen and Balibago creeks, where water levels could also rise, with early evacuation recommended for residents near Sapang Balen Creek.
To further mitigate flooding, Mayor Lazatin requested assistance from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to conduct a desilting program to improve drainage. Coordination with Congressman Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. was also emphasized to ensure targeted interventions and resource allocation for vulnerable communities.
The LGU confirmed that pre-emptive evacuation in high-risk barangays may begin Friday, November 7, 2025, with food, non-food items, and temporary shelters ready for evacuees. Residents are advised to stay updated via the Angeles City Information Office for advisories and alerts as the typhoon approaches Luzon on Monday, November 10.
