ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — The Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., conducted an orientation session for the 2025 beneficiaries of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) on April 30 at the City Council Session Hall.
The orientation was spearheaded by Ferdinand Calma, head of the city’s Public Employment and Services Office (PESO), who provided an overview of the program’s objectives and guidelines. Calma emphasized the importance of the SPES program in offering valuable work experience to the youth while helping them continue their education.
SPES, a flagship initiative of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), is designed to assist poor but deserving students, out-of-school youth, and dependents of displaced workers. It offers short-term employment during summer to help beneficiaries earn and save for the upcoming school year.
Mayor Lazatin highlighted the city’s commitment to supporting educational programs and youth empowerment initiatives. He noted that by participating in SPES, students are not only earning income but also gaining real-world experience that can prepare them for future employment.
The city government collaborates with DOLE to implement SPES annually. Through this partnership, student beneficiaries are placed in various local government offices where they perform clerical and administrative tasks, giving them hands-on experience in public service.
Parents and guardians of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the city government for continuing the program, saying it provides much-needed financial relief for their families while keeping their children engaged during the break.
With this year’s orientation completed, participating students are set to begin their assignments in early May. The Angeles City Government reaffirms its support for youth development and continues to prioritize educational and employment opportunities for its young citizens.
