Angeles City paid tribute to one of its most revered sons, former Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos, in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony held on May 7, 2025. The annual event, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., commemorates the heroism and patriotism of Abad Santos, whose unwavering courage during World War II left a lasting legacy.
Mayor Lazatin underscored the importance of remembering Abad Santos not only through ceremonies but by embodying his principles of justice, integrity, and nationalism. “As Angeleños and as Kapampangans, we are proud to call him one of our own. In remembering him, we renew our commitment to uphold justice, truth, and love for country,” he stated.
The event was attended by key city officials and community leaders, reflecting the collective respect and admiration for Abad Santos. Among those who joined the ceremony were Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Richard Gaza Jr., and Sto. Rosario Barangay Captain Renato Cosme.
Also present were Angeles City Tourism Officer-in-Charge Anneleen Antonio-Sugui, SK official Dennis Duya, Kuliat Foundation Inc. President Lincoln Baluyut, and Arts and Culture Adviser Carmen McTavish, highlighting the strong support of civic, cultural, and youth sectors for the occasion.
A significant presence came from the Jose Abad Santos Memorial Lodge No. 333, led by District Deputy Grand Master Very Worshipful Joey Pangilinan and Worshipful Brother Ronilo Roncal Jr., who added a fraternal tribute to the hero’s memory.
Jose Abad Santos Day, declared under Republic Acts No. 7552 and 8815, is a special non-working holiday in Angeles City and the province of Pampanga. The law recognizes Abad Santos’ sacrifice and ensures that future generations are continually reminded of his courage and patriotism.
The commemorative event not only honored a national hero but also served as a call for civic responsibility among Kapampangans. Through this annual remembrance, Angeles City continues to instill pride and deepen the community’s commitment to the values Abad Santos so bravely defended.
