ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — In a vibrant show of patriotism, Angeles City has begun installing Independence Day-themed lanterns along Magalang Road in Barangay Pandan. The installation started on Monday, May 5, as part of early preparations for the nationwide celebration on June 12.
The lanterns, designed with the main elements and colors of the Philippine flag—blue, red, white, and yellow—will adorn the streets to honor the country’s rich history and cultural pride. The prominent symbols such as the sun and three stars, often seen on the national flag, are incorporated into the lantern designs.
Local government officials said the initiative aims not only to beautify the city but also to instill a sense of national pride among residents and visitors. The display is expected to serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made for the country’s freedom and to inspire unity among the people.
According to Barangay Pandan leaders, the lanterns will remain on display throughout the Independence Day season. The project is a collaborative effort between the city government and community volunteers, reflecting the spirit of bayanihan in celebrating Filipino heritage.
Residents have praised the colorful decorations, describing them as festive and meaningful. Many have already taken photos of the lanterns, which are gaining attention on social media for their artistry and patriotic message.
City officials also encouraged other barangays to join in by setting up their own patriotic decorations to spread the spirit of Independence Day throughout Angeles. They emphasized that such efforts not only uplift community spirit but also attract tourism and boost local pride.
As the June 12 celebration approaches, Angeles City continues to set an inspiring example of how local traditions and creativity can honor the country’s independence while bringing communities closer together.
