ANGELES CITY — Philippine flags were raised across Angeles City Hall and its satellite offices on May 27, 2025, in time for the observance of the 127th National Flag Day on May 28 and in anticipation of Independence Day on June 12. This citywide initiative was carried out under the directive of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr.
Mayor Lazatin ordered the installation of flags in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 374 and Executive Order No. 79. These national directives call for the public display of the Philippine flag from May 28 to June 12, promoting national pride and commemorating the country’s hard-won freedom.
“This is more than just raising flags,” Mayor Lazatin said. “It’s about remembering our country’s victories during the colonial era and encouraging patriotism among every Filipino, especially our youth.”
National Flag Day, observed annually on May 28, marks the first unfurling of the Philippine flag after a significant victory of the Philippine Revolutionary Army in 1898. Executive Order No. 79 extends the celebration period until June 12, urging both public and private institutions to display the flag proudly during this time.
The Angeles City Tourism Office, led by Officer-in-Charge Anneleen Antonio-Sugui, facilitated the flag-raising activity. The operation was overseen by Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel to ensure a coordinated effort across city departments.
City government buildings, schools, and partner establishments have all joined in the flag display, reinforcing a collective sense of national identity. The local government hopes the visual reminder of the Philippine flag will inspire deeper respect for the country’s history and its struggles for independence.
This annual tradition is a core part of Angeles City’s cultural initiatives, reaffirming the local government’s commitment to preserving Filipino heritage and instilling a sense of pride in every Angeleño.
