Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of Angeleño farmers during a recent consultation with representatives from Barangays Cutud, Mining, Pulung Bulu, and Sapa Libutad. The discussion focused on the city’s initiative to directly purchase palay harvests, ensuring fair prices for farmers and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
This program reflects the city government’s proactive approach to strengthening local food security while supporting small-scale farmers. By buying crops directly from producers, Angeles City guarantees a stable market, helping farmers maximize the value of their hard work and mitigate financial uncertainties.
Also in attendance was City Agriculture Officer Rea Dizon, who provided updates on current agricultural programs and shared plans for future initiatives. These programs aim to enhance productivity, increase resilience against natural hazards, and provide farmers with technical and material support.
During the meeting, farmers expressed optimism about the city’s direct-buy initiative, noting that it will help reduce dependency on middlemen and ensure that they receive fair compensation for their harvests. Many also highlighted the importance of continued training and assistance to improve crop yields and sustainability.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that empowering farmers is essential not only for individual livelihoods but also for the city’s overall food security and community resilience. He encouraged collaboration between local authorities and farmers to strengthen the agricultural sector and ensure the sustainable growth of the local economy.
The initiative is part of Angeles City’s broader strategy to support agriculture as a foundation of progress, combining direct economic support, technical guidance, and access to quality inputs. The city envisions a thriving agricultural community that contributes to long-term food stability and economic growth.
Through efforts like this, Angeles City continues to demonstrate its commitment to the people who feed the community. By directly engaging with farmers and addressing their needs, the administration reinforces its mission to nurture growth, sustain livelihoods, and build a resilient food system for all Angeleños.
