The Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, continues to prioritize the safety and preparedness of its citizens through educational initiatives and public safety programs. The latest effort focused on equipping students and educators with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in emergencies.
A Public Safety Seminar was recently held at the Angeles City Library Amphitheater, where representatives from 52 public schools attended sessions on handling bomb threats, understanding cybercrime, and responding to earthquakes. The seminar provided practical guidance to help schools maintain safe learning environments and ensure the well-being of students and staff.
The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) through Project ABKD (Awareness of Bombs that Kill lives and Destroy properties), and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO). This partnership highlights the city’s commitment to a holistic approach to safety, combining law enforcement, disaster preparedness, and community education.
During the seminar, participants engaged in interactive discussions and scenario-based exercises that simulated real-life emergencies. These activities aimed to build confidence and competence among educators, enabling them to act quickly and responsibly in critical situations.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of proactive safety measures in schools, stating that “Preparedness is key to protecting lives and minimizing risks. By educating our students and teachers, we are strengthening the entire community.” His message underscored the city government’s dedication to proactive risk management.
Plans are already underway to extend the program to private schools, colleges, and universities, ensuring that all educational institutions in Angeles City are equipped with the tools and knowledge to respond effectively to emergencies. This inclusive approach ensures comprehensive coverage across the city’s learning institutions.
Through initiatives like the Public Safety Seminar, Angeles City continues to lead by example in fostering a culture of preparedness and protection. By empowering both students and educators, the city reinforces its commitment to creating a safer, more resilient community for all Angeleños.
