ANGELES CITY – Angeles City successfully conducted the Fourth Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill today at the Angeles Elementary School Command Center, reinforcing the city’s commitment to disaster preparedness in schools. The activity was spearheaded by the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), with Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II joining the drill to show support and ensure the readiness of the city’s educational institutions.
The drill brought together teachers, school heads, and staff, who coordinated closely with ACDRRMO responders to practice effective communication, organized evacuation procedures, and proper accountability measures for learners and school personnel. Their collaboration emphasized the importance of teamwork and coordination during emergencies.
Trained emergency responders were on-site to guide participants through real-time protocols, providing expert direction to ensure that the school community followed accurate and efficient safety measures. Their presence helped simulate realistic conditions and allowed for immediate feedback on performance.
Throughout the exercise, participants practiced clear evacuation flow, safe assembly at designated points, and command readiness, highlighting the school’s ability to respond promptly and effectively in case of an actual earthquake. The drill also reinforced quick mobilization and structured emergency management procedures.
Mayor Lazatin praised the initiative, emphasizing that disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility. He noted that continuous drills and active participation by school communities are key to safeguarding the lives of students, teachers, and staff, ultimately building trust and confidence in the city’s emergency systems.
The ACDRRMO used the drill to assess the effectiveness of existing safety protocols and identify areas for improvement. Insights from the exercise will help enhance the city’s overall disaster response strategies, particularly in educational institutions where the safety of young learners is a top priority.
With ongoing guidance from Mayor Lazatin and the active cooperation of schools, Angeles City continues to foster a culture of preparedness, resilience, and public safety. Through such initiatives, the city aims to ensure that every Angeleño is informed, equipped, and ready to act in times of disaster.
