Angeles City — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) brought its advocacy and information campaign to the grassroots level through a Community Education Program held at the Liga ng mga Barangay in Angeles City. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about safe and informed migration, with strong support from the local government.
Organized in collaboration with the Angeles City Government under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, the event was made possible through the efforts of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Liga ng mga Barangay. It gathered barangay officials, aspiring overseas workers, and residents interested in learning more about opportunities and responsibilities abroad.
The event featured a visiting delegation from the CFO, led by Secretary Dante “Klink” Ang II, who emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring that Filipinos are equipped with accurate knowledge before migrating for work or settlement. Mayor Jon Lazatin echoed this advocacy, reinforcing the city’s support for programs that protect and empower future Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
Participants were briefed on CFO’s various services, including pre-departure orientation seminars, legal assistance, and reintegration programs. These services aim to prevent illegal recruitment, human trafficking, and other risks associated with migration. Attendees were encouraged to make use of these resources to make informed decisions for themselves and their families.
Secretary Ang also stressed the importance of partnerships between national agencies and local government units (LGUs) to effectively reach communities. He praised Angeles City’s proactive approach in supporting migrant workers through education, employment services, and welfare programs.
The event marked another milestone in the city’s continuing efforts to promote responsible migration. Mayor Lazatin reiterated that the city remains a strong ally of the national government in advocating for the rights and welfare of Filipinos overseas and those preparing to leave.
By bringing the Community Education Program closer to the people, the CFO and Angeles City LGU strengthened their shared mission — to ensure every aspiring OFW leaves the country informed, prepared, and protected.
