ANGELES CITY — Despite a landslide victory in the recent elections, Mayor-elect Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II remains grounded and grateful, choosing humility over celebration after defeating retired police general Oscar Albayalde in the Angeles City mayoral race.
Lazatin, the outgoing Pampanga 1st District Representative, secured 98,164 votes—significantly outpacing his opponent and cementing public confidence in his leadership. The large margin of victory has been widely interpreted as an endorsement of the Lazatin family’s long-standing service to the city.
In a statement following his proclamation, Lazatin expressed gratitude to the voters, his campaign team, and his opponent, noting that the real victory belongs to the people of Angeles City. “Hindi ito tagumpay ko lang—tagumpay ito ng bawat Angeleño na nagnanais ng tuluy-tuloy na serbisyo,” he said.
He also extended a gesture of respect to Albayalde, commending his opponent’s courage in entering the political arena. “General Albayalde served the nation well, and I appreciate his willingness to offer his leadership to our city,” Lazatin added.
Supporters have praised Lazatin not only for his performance as a legislator but also for his composed and respectful conduct throughout the campaign. Many see his humility as a reflection of the same leadership style that his brother, outgoing Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., is known for.
As he prepares to assume office, Jon Lazatin reiterated his focus on continuity and progress, vowing to prioritize healthcare, livelihood, infrastructure, and transparency. “Now is the time to unite and work together for a better Angeles,” he said.
The mayor-elect’s humble approach, even in triumph, has inspired optimism among residents who are looking forward to a new chapter under his leadership—grounded in experience, continuity, and service with integrity.
