ANGELES CITY — To ensure all public schools are ready for the new academic year, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. launched Brigada Eskwela 2025 on June 9, 2025, by deploying four city-led teams to assist in campus cleanup and minor repairs.
Mayor Lazatin directed the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, led by Mina Cabiles, to spearhead the initiative at Sapalibutad Elementary School, one of the selected schools for this year’s kickoff efforts. The GAD team was among the groups tasked to guide the restoration activities and encourage volunteer participation.
Brigada Eskwela is an annual program of the Department of Education aimed at engaging communities to prepare public schools for the resumption of classes. In Angeles City, the local government has taken an active role by providing resources and manpower to support this nationwide effort.
All 55 public schools in Angeles City will receive 40 liters of paint, four paint rollers, and 25 bags of cement each, as part of the city’s commitment to improving learning environments. These materials are intended to help schools repaint classrooms and repair essential facilities.
“This initiative is a show of our collective commitment to education,” said Mayor Lazatin. “We want our students to return to schools that are clean, safe, and ready to inspire learning and growth.”
School heads and teachers expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the materials would greatly ease their preparation workload. Community members have also started volunteering, demonstrating strong local participation in the week-long Brigada Eskwela drive.
Mayor Lazatin assured that the city government will continue to prioritize education through sustained infrastructure support and meaningful partnerships with schools, educators, and parents — all working together to create a better future for Angeleño learners.
