Amid a rising dengue outbreak, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II has called on all 33 Punong Barangays to unite and take decisive action against the disease. This call to action follows alarming data from the City Health Office revealing that dengue cases have surpassed the epidemic threshold for four consecutive weeks.
Dr. Jessie Paul Culang of the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit presented the latest figures showing that individuals aged 10 to 19 are the most affected group in the period from July 20 to 26, 2025. The trend underscores the urgent need for collective efforts to control the spread of the mosquito-borne illness.
In response, the city government has urged barangays to spearhead SEARCH AND DESTROY operations targeting mosquito breeding sites every day at 4:00 PM, at least every other day. These activities will continue until no new dengue cases are reported for two consecutive 28-day cycles, signaling a break in transmission.
Schools, both public and private, are also encouraged to participate by conducting daily SEARCH AND DESTROY campaigns at 4:00 PM. This partnership aims to instill mosquito prevention habits among students and their families, broadening the scope of community involvement.
Additionally, the City Government will implement space spraying or fogging procedures immediately following SEARCH AND DESTROY efforts. This will be done every seven days for four consecutive cycles to reduce adult mosquito populations in affected areas.
Residents are reminded to follow the “4 Ts” of dengue prevention: Taoob (eliminate standing water), Taktak (dry damp areas), Tuyo (empty water containers), and Takip (cover water containers). The city also promotes “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito,” encouraging households to practice mosquito prevention tips daily at 4:00 PM.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of a united front, calling on the public, barangay officials, and schools to work together in protecting Angeles City from dengue. Through sustained and coordinated efforts, the community can curb the outbreak and safeguard the health of all Angeleños.
