Angeles City – Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II received a Plaque of Recognition from the Department of Education (DepEd) Region III for his unwavering support of the Madrasah Education Program (MEP). This honor highlights his administration’s ongoing commitment to inclusive and culturally sensitive education in Angeles City.
The recognition was officially awarded during the two-day Solidarity Forum on the Implementation of the Madrasah Education Program, held on September 15–16, 2025, in Olongapo City, Zambales. The forum, organized by the Curriculum and Learning Management Division of DepEd Region III, was themed “Fostering Unity, Excellence, and Appreciation in Madrasah Education.”
The event brought together educators, local leaders, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening Madrasah education across Central Luzon. Mayor Lazatin’s support stood out as a model for local government involvement in expanding access to education for Muslim learners.
According to DepEd Region III officials, the Angeles City government has provided consistent assistance to Madrasah learners, helping ensure that their right to quality education is upheld regardless of cultural or religious background. The recognition also acknowledges the city’s programs that empower minority communities through inclusive policies.
Mayor Lazatin’s administration has long been focused on child-friendly governance. Angeles City was recently validated for the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Cities under the Highly Urbanized City category, demonstrating its broader commitment to child welfare and inclusive learning environments.
In his response, Mayor Lazatin expressed gratitude to DepEd for the recognition and reaffirmed his dedication to supporting all educational programs that promote unity and cultural respect. He emphasized the role of education in building a more peaceful and inclusive society.
As Angeles City continues to champion inclusive governance, this latest recognition from DepEd solidifies Mayor Lazatin’s role as a key advocate for educational equity—not just in his city, but in the region as well.
