ANGELES CITY — In anticipation of potential impacts from Typhoon Paolo, Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II convened a high-level disaster risk assessment meeting to reinforce the city’s preparedness measures. Although the current forecast suggests that the typhoon may not directly hit Angeles City, the mayor emphasized the importance of staying ready for any scenario.
The meeting brought together key officials and department heads, including Councilor Edu Pamintuan, who chairs the city’s Disaster Committee. Representatives from the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), City Engineer’s Office, CENRO, ACTDO, EMS, GSO, the City Command Center, City Administrator’s Office, and City Information Office were in attendance. Councilors JC Aguas and Alex Indiongco also participated in the session.
Among the critical areas discussed were the latest weather bulletins, hazard mapping, and vulnerability assessments. Officials reviewed potential risk zones and ensured that all departments were aligned on their respective roles in case conditions worsen.
Clear emergency communication protocols were reinforced, including escalation procedures and real-time coordination between local agencies. The city also evaluated its logistical readiness — from equipment availability to resource allocation — to ensure swift response capability if necessary.
Mayor Lazatin urged all departments to uphold a proactive approach, particularly in safeguarding vulnerable communities such as low-income households, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. He instructed all units to remain on alert, regardless of the current low threat level, to minimize risks and enhance community protection.
Coordination with barangay units was also emphasized during the meeting. Local leaders are expected to serve as the first line of response and information dissemination, should evacuation or rapid deployment of assistance be required.
The session concluded with a reaffirmation of the city’s commitment to disaster resilience and public safety. Through unified efforts and forward planning, Angeles City aims to maintain high standards in crisis management and ensure that Angeleños remain safe and informed throughout the typhoon season.
