ANGELES CITY — Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. returned to his academic roots as he graced the 79th Collegiate Commencement Exercises of Republic Central Colleges (RCC) Colegio de San Rafael – Baliti Campus on May 15, 2025, serving as the event’s Guest of Honor. His attendance marked a meaningful homecoming to the institution that helped shape his formative years.
A proud alumnus of RCC Angeles City Campus, Mayor Lazatin delivered an inspiring address to the graduates, recalling his time at the college with deep appreciation. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for being invited to speak at the ceremony and shared how his education at RCC played a vital role in shaping his leadership and public service values.
“Napakasaya ko po na nandito ako ngayon kasama kayo bilang guest speaker ng Batch 79th Collegiate Commencement Exercises,” Lazatin said. “Isang karangalan po na maimbitahan at bumalik dito mismo sa paaralan na humubog sa aking kakayahan.” His speech resonated with pride as he remembered his academic journey, from undergraduate years to graduate studies.
The mayor underscored how RCC’s teachings remain at the core of his approach to governance. He credited the school for instilling discipline, service, and a strong sense of responsibility, qualities he carries into his daily work as the city’s top official. “RCC played a big role in the man I have become today,” he shared.
Mayor Lazatin also highlighted major educational initiatives under his administration, including the distribution of school supplies to over 100,000 public school students between 2022 and 2024, the establishment of 16 fully-equipped computer laboratories, and the launch of Central Luzon’s first solar-powered public school—Belen Homesite Elementary School in Barangay Sto. Cristo. These projects reflect his commitment to leaving no student behind.
He reinforced his guiding principle: “Walang kabataan ang maiiwan pagdating sa larangan ng edukasyon.” Lazatin encouraged the graduates to pursue excellence, remain grounded in their values, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were RCC President Dr. Victoria Lazatin-Angeles and Atty. Toti Angeles, who, along with faculty members and families, celebrated the achievements of the graduating class. The event served not only as a celebration of academic success but also as a touching reunion between Mayor Lazatin and his alma mater.
