ANGELES CITY – The Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC) successfully hosted a three-day training on Essential Maternal and Newborn Care, Small Baby Care, and Lactation Management from November 3 to 5, 2025. This initiative is part of the hospital’s commitment to the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI), which aims to deliver quality, compassionate, and evidence-based care for mothers and newborns.
Healthcare participants engaged in comprehensive discussions and demonstrations on maternal and newborn health practices, including infection prevention, counseling techniques, and newborn survival strategies. Emphasis was placed on supporting mothers in the early stages of life, particularly those whose babies require extra attention.
The training also highlighted the Philippine Milk Code, proper breastfeeding techniques, infant positioning and attachment, and managing common challenges such as low milk supply or maternal discomfort. Participants practiced skills through clinical exercises and case studies, allowing them to apply knowledge in realistic scenarios.
RLMMC stressed that enhancing the expertise of healthcare providers is key to creating a hospital environment that safeguards the health of both mothers and infants while promoting successful breastfeeding and early bonding. The program underscores the hospital’s patient-centered approach to maternal care.
Hospital officials noted that the training contributes to the broader goal of the MBFHI program, ensuring that all newborns receive proper care immediately after birth and that mothers are supported in their critical caregiving roles.
By continuously equipping staff with updated knowledge and practical skills, RLMMC strengthens its position as a center of excellence for maternal and newborn health services in Angeles City. The program also reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to evidence-based practices and compassionate care.
Through initiatives like this, RLMMC reaffirms its dedication to promoting safe, supportive, and mother-focused healthcare, ensuring that every mother and child benefits from high-quality care from the very start of life.
